Live and work in Portugal by Guy Hobbs
This book is very useful for anybody planning to live and/or work in Portugal as you may have guessed from the title.  This covers almost every conceivable practicality that you will need if you are planning to move.  However, because of the sheer quantity of different aspects, it sometimes doesn't go in to a lot of detail, but a great start.

Talk Portuguese by Christina Mendes-Llewellyn
When I started learning the language, I used this BBC book and cassettes.  It is very well written and has just enough for the beginner to grasp the basics.  The cassettes help greatly.  Included at the end of each chapter is a small quiz.

Live in Portugal by Anne de Stoop
Full of wonderful photography, this book is definitely one for the coffee table.  Full of text about the areas in the photographs, this book is recommended.

Covering buying a house as well as living day-to-day when you move there.  Includes details on tax and the minimum wage etc.  Complete with a colour-photograph section.

Nicely written, this includes extracts from Portuguese books and newspapers.  However, some of the text is a little complicated.
